Privacy Policy | SciVolume — AI Book Writer: One Sentence, One Whole Book

SciVolume ("SciVolume", "we") is an AI workspace for writing scholarly books at scivolume.ai, operated by TopLocalAI, LLC. This policy explains what personal data we collect when you use it, how we use that data, and which providers process it on our behalf. Questions can be sent to davie@daviechen.com.

What we collect

Account data. Your email address, the name and avatar you provide, and sign-in records. You can sign in with a one-time email code or with a Google account. With Google sign-in we receive only your email address, name and avatar and no other access to your Google account. We do not store passwords.
Trial sessions. When you open the sample workbench without registering, we create an anonymous temporary account to hold your edits. It contains no personal data and is deleted after 7 days; if you register, the sample book moves into your account.
Your books and sources. The manuscripts you write, outlines, chapters, version history, references you add, files and figures you upload, glossaries and translations. This content belongs to you.
Subscription and credit records. Your plan, payment status, credit balance and each credit charge. Card details are collected and stored by Stripe; we keep only the customer id and transaction status Stripe returns and never see your card number.
Usage records. Server logs with IP address, browser type, requested pages and timestamps, kept for security and to diagnose problems. The trial workbench is rate-limited by IP address.
Messages you send us. The name, email address and text you submit through the contact form.

How we use it

To run your account and workspace, save your work and let you return to it.
To send transactional email: sign-in codes, account and subscription notices, "your book is ready" notifications and replies to your messages.
To provide AI features. When you ask the AI to draft, rewrite, translate, check, find sources or generate a figure, the relevant text, outline, approved sources and the content of files you uploaded are sent to a third-party AI model provider to produce the result, and only for that purpose.
To process subscriptions, credit purchases and refunds, and to prevent payment fraud.
To keep the service secure and to investigate abuse.

We do not sell personal data, and we do not use your manuscripts or sources to train public AI models.

Providers that process data for us

Neon (database hosting, United States): account data, books and credit records.
Vercel (application hosting): serves the website and keeps short-term operational logs.
Cloudflare R2 (file storage): files you upload and figures the AI generates, served from cdn.scivolume.ai.
Stripe (payments): processes payments and stores your payment method under Stripe's own privacy policy.
Google (optional sign-in): verifies your identity only when you choose Google sign-in.
AI model providers (Google, OpenAI and other models accessed through OpenRouter): receive the content described above only when you use an AI feature, under API terms that exclude training.
Literature sources (OpenAlex, Semantic Scholar, Crossref): receive your search terms when you search for references or look up a DOI, never your account data.

Retention and deletion

Your books stay in your account until you delete them. Deleting a book removes its chapters, references, uploaded files and version history. You can delete your whole account from the settings page, which removes your account data and books; payment records are kept as long as financial and tax rules require, and server logs are retained for a limited period for security. Copies in provider backups are removed on their normal schedule.

Your choices and rights

You can view and edit your account details, export your books, delete books or your account, and manage or cancel your subscription from the billing page at any time. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to access, correct, port or erase your data, or to object to certain processing. Email davie@daviechen.com and we will respond.

International transfers

SciVolume is operated for users worldwide. Data is stored and processed in the United States by the providers listed above.

Children

SciVolume is intended for adult researchers, educators and students and is not directed at children under 16.

Changes

We will post changes to this policy on this page and update the effective date. Significant changes will be announced in the product or by email.
